Extremely pleased to confirm that Dan, Chris and myself have just booked our flights for this year’s lure festival on the fishtastic island of Alderney!
This is the fourth year Mark Harding of Alderney Angling has hosted the event and it’s always extremely well run.
Hats off to Andy Mytton for a first class LRF competition and meet-up, drawing in anglers from all over the country. Huge turn-out for any time of year (I think it was 34), but for December, with 40mph winds roaring away it was exceptional. Lots and lots of friendly faces, plus a few new to the saltwater side of light lure. Everyone appeared to be having fun.
Weymouth, you excelled yourself! What an amazing venue for a species hunt. Competitors managed 17 species in 8 hours of fishing. Without bait. That’s ridiculous!
Probably the most fun I’ll ever have coming last in a species hunt. I love this place! Plymouth offers an amazing array of opportunities for the lurist / species hunter / LRFer. For me, Plymouth remains the LRF capital of the UK and I’m ashamed it’s been so long since I returned.
The weather gods were not best pleased with the group of anglers that ventured out to fish the 2014 Alderney 24 Hour Lure Only Species Hunt. Strong easterly winds hampered everyone’s progress the whole weekend but did nothing to dampen everyone’s enthusiasm. Alderney has a lot to offer, even in tough conditions.
It’s a week since the kick off of the 2014 Cornish Lure Festival and I have to say I’m not sure I’ve recovered yet – it was EPIC
After entering the Species Hunt competition for the first time last year, I’d managed to pass on my enthusiasm for the event to mates, Dan and Chris. Estelle enjoyed last year, even as a non-fisher, and was along for the ride again too. So with a rough plan built around the far from perfect forecast, and the two productive marks I’d garnered last year, we all met up in deepest, darkest Cornwall. Exciting!
Well I’m delighted to say that the 2014 LRF season has finally started down on the south coast. I ended up having a fairly hectic, but great week of fishing – starting out on the boat, fishing some of our inshore marks towards Selsey, then shooting down to Brixham for some Light Game fun and then finally to my home town of Portsmouth for a mixture of LRF fishing styles.
