LRF Rods
There’s now a huge choice of LRF fishing rods and deciding which rod to buy is a very personal decision. Solid-tip or tubular? 8ft, 7ft, 6ft, or even the latest trend of butt-less, featherweight, 5-footers? Parabolic or extra fast action? Duplon or cork? Screw-up or screw-down? SiC or Torzite? The list goes on and on. The following posts about light lure rods may not help you with all these decisions, but hopefully they will give you some ideas.
Tubular vs Solid Tip
My understanding of rod design and rod performance has accelerated since I started fishing for Perch in my local canal. Unlike the sea, conditions are more often than not suitable for throwing the tiniest lures. We’re often talking 1-inch plastics and jigheads under a gram. To me, it’s this style of fishing that has amplified the importance of using a balanced outfit. I thought I’d share where my head is at currently. Subject to change.More
New Illex Pepper Rod S 220 UL
The Illex Pepper was the first modern UL rod we fell in love with when we saw the original model back in 2011. For some reason neither of us has ever bought one. I can’t tell you why. It’s been like a scratch that needed to be itched. And then last year Chris, a good friend of ours did the deed.
So four years on, Illex have reworked the Pepper.

Gear Of The Year 2014
Promised myself I would share my favourite gear of the year as we approach the end of 2014. And what a year it’s been! UK lure fishing has gone from strength to strength. LRF seemed to explode. Feels almost commonplace in some areas now. We gained a lure fishing series that saw our techniques and tackle tested. And more mainstream tackle manufacturers tried to get in on the act. So what did I like and why? More
Major Craft Turel Extended Review
We’re approaching the end of 2014 and it’s a good time to review what’s worked and what hasn’t worked this year. If I think back to my competition angling, one rod stands head and shoulders above the rest as my best performing lure rod – the Major Craft Turel TUS-T762. More
