Gone are the days we dreamed whether Plaice could be caught on lures. I’m pleased to say this is the third season we’ve intentionally targeted and succeeded in catching Plaice on lures. Last year we tempted them with Ecogear Milfle and Gulp Sandworm lures. This last weekend, Dan tried the XL Isome and I opted for an uber-flexible Reins Bubbling Shaker worm – both fished on jigheads. Both lures did the business and despite the fishing not being electric, we managed a lure caught fish each, in far from perfect conditions. For me, it cements the fact that Plaice are a legitimate sport-fish and are in fact the first significant quarry we can target with lures each year. I’m really looking forward to getting back out there and trying some other methods for them – as well as hopefully connecting with one of the clonkers!
