By all accounts, it’s been a good year for Plaice on the South Coast. Good quantities of fish means better chances of catching them on lures as these colourful flatfish compete with each other. More
I’ve somehow beautifully avoided Weevers until now. But very pleased to tick off the Lesser Weever on this year’s species list. Numero 20 in fact. Lure was an XL Marukyu Isome fished on a 10g jighead on the drift.
Watch out youngsters (and not so youngsters) – these are poisonous! Not worthy of abuse, but watch yourselves and go careful.
Plaice dominate the local boat fishing at this time of year and traditionally herald the start of spring. Of course this year has been slightly different, what with winter out-staying its welcome. But rather surprisingly, the Plaice have been showing in very good numbers out of Southsea and Hayling Island beaches when the weather has actually allowed boats to get out. With some good numbers of fish being caught at some old traditional venues that have been poor for several years. The bonus being these marks are right on my sea-door-step and very lure friendly, so when the weather obliged last weekend we got old Drifter afloat and set about finding some fish. More
There is nothing like fishing a different patch to get the old mind cogs moving and sharpen the LRF skills. It’s kind of fun to go somewhere blind and see what can be caught and with this in mind my mate Adam jumped in the van and we burned some company diesel along the coast to Weymouth. More
Liked the look of these fine offset hooks on the Lure Heaven UK stand today – the Vanfook Worm 35B Flat offset hook. Nice sized gape for fishing LRF sized worm baits like the new XL Marukyu Isome. Springy enough to ping out of snags if you do lock up. Small sizes available. Vanfook is fast becoming a favourite of mine. Nice range. Hopefully get more pics on here tomorrow.
For the first time it was clear that Marukyu wanted to make some distinction between its Power Isome product and their Ecogear lure brand. In contrast to last year’s Tackle and Guns show, Marukyu decided to host a separate stand for Ecogear (more on that later), while keeping the main stand exclusively for its many bait products.More
