With a widening gap between myself and the others fishing the Lure Heaven UK Species Hunt and the summer life draining out of the sea on a daily basis now, I headed west to Plymouth at the weekend to see how many ‘summer’ species I could tick off before they left our shores
Very happy with this one. My first ever Goldsinny Wrasse by any method and again I have light rock fishing tactics to thank for it. I swapped back to my lighter solid tip rod and fished a split shot rig, tiny hook and a small section of large Power Isome. This takes me to 22 species this year.

Always really pleased to see individuals leading the light rock fishing revolution and raising the profile of our sport. Hats off to Will Harding and the Weymouth LRF massive for getting light rock fishing into the Dorset Echo newspaper – in print and online!
After a number of events and meetings recently, it looks like Weymouth is set up as the hub for Dorset LRF – they’ve got some great venues too. Hopefully I can get down and fish one of the weekly meets one time.

Summer appears to be slipping away on the south coast, so I thought I better put in some effort for the Lure Heaven UK species hunt. Luckily the Corkwing are still in residence at pretty much every seaward mark we fish in Portsmouth – they won’t be for too much longer. Then a change of mark presented me with seemingly a sea of Black Goby but I did fluke out my first Dragonet of the year – good for the comp and my yearly species tally.
Sunday saw Dan and I fish a mark in Portsmouth that we’ve fished countless times before but that didn’t stop us learning something about the movements of the resident Bass population.
