Looking back at previous lure species hunt competitions, the Greater Sandeel or Launce has proved frustrating to catch at times, especially as you can often see them. If I was in that same situation again, I would definitely opt for a nano metal jig (sub 3g) and a set of tiny assist hooks (size 8 or 10). That feels like the way forward for these larger sandeel. Alternate the retrieve between traditional sink-and-draw and a straight retrieve. Focus on the top few feet of water.
