Stopped off at Poole Quay on my way back from wrasse fishing further south. Of course I had an LRF rod in the car!

Night Game Poole Quay
A 90 minute Night Game session at Poole Quay resulted in some good fun with the local Pollack population. All fish were caught in the top third of the water column. A couple of big Smelt even managed to inhale the size 8.
Best of all, and what really gave me payback for braving the drizzle was witnessing ragworm spawning on the surface. I’ve only ever seen this once before and never as clearly as this. Couldn’t understand why they weren’t getting smashed by the Pollack.
April Wrasse Fishing
Enjoyable day on the Dorset coast with Dan and Chris. While the wrasse fishing is still only a fraction of what it will be in the next couple of months, it still felt rewarding. Each of us caught. Creature baits were the key. Crystal clear water conditions. You can’t beat the ‘tonk’ of a bite from a Ballan Wrasse. I’m an addict!
Horse Mackerel at Weymouth
Great little session with Chris Wheeler in Weymouth on Saturday night. Wind dropped away to nothing for a couple of hours around midnight and we were able to fish delicate Aji-type lures on jigheads, using the curve fall method, on-the-drop (OTD). We picked up the desired Horse Mackerel (Scad), Mackerel and some decent sized Pollack, plus the odd tiny Whiting caught well off the bottom. Really enjoyed it.
Night Games at West Bay
Saturday night saw me hatching a plan to administer a Flounder smackdown. Wedged between my Lulworth wrasse-a-thon in the morning and the Bristol BLAC qualifier the next day, I settled on West Bay, in Dorset.
LRF on Swanage Pier
What a cracking bank holiday Monday it was down in Dorset!
First of this year’s trips down to Swanage Pier and the first of the fish. It was clear that the Scorpos were back with a vengeance. Team Taylor (Mark and Sam) were into double figures by the time I got there. Young Sam was rinsing us. Well done Sam.
