About Adam Kirby

Hi. My name is Adam Kirby and this is my LRF blog. I've been angling for nearly 30 years now. The first 20 of which were almost entirely focused on sea angling, fishing around my home town of Portsmouth. I still regard myself as a sea angler, but the boundaries have blurred a little. Probably best described as an all-round lure angler these days. Across both freshwater and salt. I've had decent success on the freshwater lure competition scene where I transferred my ultralight, LRF approach to targeting Perch on the inland waterways. If you've not tried this yet, you must give it a go. In 2015 I was crowned 'British Street Fishing Champion' after a series of events fished across the country. I've always enjoyed the variety of fish species available in the sea and I've worked hard to catch over 40 UK saltwater species on lure. My motto is simple. “Fish for what’s in front of you. Big or small, love them all.”

Snowbee LRF

Snowbee have launched a range of LRF lures under their Stinger brand. It’s good to see a company like Snowbee pounce on LRF as an opportunity for a few reasons.

Berkley Nanofil in New Colours

Berkley Nanofil is now available in 3 colours. In addition to the White Mist, you can now get Lime Green and Dark Green variants. Have seen mixed feedback on Nanofil as an LRF line but it’s certainly an affordable, thin line with low stretch and great sensitivity.

Vanfook Worm 35B Flat Offset Hooks

Liked the look of these fine offset hooks on the Lure Heaven UK stand today – the Vanfook Worm 35B Flat offset hook. Nice sized gape for fishing LRF sized worm baits like the new XL Marukyu Isome. Springy enough to ping out of snags if you do lock up. Small sizes available. Vanfook is fast becoming a favourite of mine. Nice range. Hopefully get more pics on here tomorrow.

Lynx Knotless Technology

The knotless technology demonstration on the Lynx stand was really impressive but alas, it currently has limitations in terms of the lightness of line that can be used – so it looks like it won’t come to LRF for now :0(

New Fiiish Black Minnow 70

UK distributor, Top Water Lures had cleverly got top French lure manufacturer Fiiish on their stand at the Tackle and Guns show today. It gave me an opportunity to see the new, baby Black Minnow 70. It measures 3 inches and features the same super-soft body, large paddle tail and fish catching action as the bigger models. The finely matched 3g head holds an offset hook that is fished weedless. Look forward to trying it out.

Graphiteleader Finezza Nuovo GONFS-76-842UL-T-AL

It was great once again to catch up with John and Melissa Barriball from Lure Heaven UK at the Tackle and Guns trade show earlier today. Knowing my preference for Light Rock Fishing, John had something special to show me – a very special LRF rod from Graphiteleader – the Finezza Nuovo GONFS-76-842UL-T-AL.

New Marukyu Isome

For the first time it was clear that Marukyu wanted to make some distinction between its Power Isome product and their Ecogear lure brand. In contrast to last year’s Tackle and Guns show, Marukyu decided to host a separate stand for Ecogear (more on that later), while keeping the main stand exclusively for its many bait products.

Tackle and Guns Trade Show 2012

Set off early this morning, not to go fishing, but to visit the Tackle and Guns trade show at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. I’ve been a few times before and was keen to see how UK distributors and manufacturers are servicing lure fishing in 2012 and beyond – especially to get a better idea of whether the recent hype in LRF is leading to business for those involved.
