A change is as good as a rest, so this weekend I grabbed a packet of the AquaWave Straight, some nail weights and hooks, and spent some time on the canal fishing the Neko Rig.

Weymouth Christmas LRF Species Hunt
Hats off to Andy Mytton for a first class LRF competition and meet-up, drawing in anglers from all over the country. Huge turn-out for any time of year (I think it was 34), but for December, with 40mph winds roaring away it was exceptional. Lots and lots of friendly faces, plus a few new to the saltwater side of light lure. Everyone appeared to be having fun.
Sand Goby
In the depths of dark December, there was no real expectation to add to my yearly species tally, but Weymouth delivered a pretty little Sand Goby as its Christmas present to me. Just shows you, you just need to get out there and fish!
Hope these pictures may help someone with identifying Sand Gobies.

41cm 3lb 2oz Perch
Over the moon! Certainly the longest Perch I’ve had out the Kennet & Avon Canal. 41cm to the fork. 3lb 2oz. In beautiful condition. Where has she been hiding all this time?!
Chasing Perch & Pike
With the weather all over the place in recent weeks it’s been frustrating trying to find any consistency in catches. Some locations have offered up huge shoals of smaller Perch, but until today the bigger 30+ fish have been few and far between.
Busy With HTO
Thought I’d give a little update on what I’ve been up to of late. I’ve actually been really busy. Since joining Tronix / HTO almost a month today I’ve already done three magazine features on the Perch side. One on ultralight jigging for a tackle pull-out, one on Dropshot for the Angling Times and another for AT that’s yet to be published – again on the lighter side of luring. It’s been interesting as I’ve had to very quickly adapt my tackle choices, trying to replicate the winning formula with a new range of gear.
