New Revo MGXtreme spinning reel seen on the Abu Garcia Japan stand. I’ve enjoyed fishing light lure styles with my own Revo Premier Spin and I really think this reel platform could challenge the mid-range reels of the big two – Shimano and Daiwa. This new Japanese model looks to squeeze even more out the reel design with the use of carbon parts. The CMg rotor looks amazing. There’s also something called ‘Salt Shield’ which I’d not seen on the Revo before. All that carbon brings the weight down, at a cost. The 1000-sized reel weighs a miniscule 155g, but will set you back nearly £300 with tax. Still, a lovely looking, Japan-inspired spinning reel that I can only dream to fish with.
