Pouting on Metal
Have to say, I really enjoyed fishing for Pout on Saturday. There, I said it! They were obliging, but not too easy. You still had to present the lure right. Good fun. A few lumps mixed in too.
HTO Shore Jigs in the scad colour.
Hi Michael. I’m not really sure how I ended up with a treble hook on this HTO Shore Jig. My preference would be a small, sharp single hook, both top and bottom. It’s a killer method and kinder on the fish than a treble. There’s a decent range of ‘assist hooks’ available from specialist retailers, but if you can find a standard hook with a big enough eye to fit over a split ring then that’s cool too. Rod and line choice is built around the lures we’re using. So if we only need up to 7g jigs for the tide and depth we have then it’s fine to use a standard 7g rated LRF rod. Unless the bottom is snaggy / weedy then we’re getting away with our standard 4-6lb line. Lure / line / rod choice is pretty much always dictated by the environment. Hardly ever the fish. Unless we need to bully fish away from structure. Hope that helps.

Hi Adam. Love these little jigs. What rod and line do you fish them on and do you change the hooks?
