Over visiting my mother in Spain at the moment. Got the chance to fish for a few hours today. Nothing too serious – just a bit of fun with a handful of tackle and a pack of Isome. As ever, my mum caught the best fish of the day! #standardÂ
Cotswold Predator Classic
Today saw 32 anglers, myself included, fish the inaugural Cotswold Predator Classic at Watermark Fisheries, near Cirencester.
With perhaps the hardest frost of the winter so far and after a week of torrential rain that saw the venue flood, the conditions could have been better. However the wind had finally dropped and it was a nice, sunny day to be outside after all the Christmas festivities.

Mini Species Still Around
Awoke in Portsmouth this morning after a night out with the lads. With only a mild hangover I thought I’d try down the Camber for an hour or so to see if there were any signs of life this close to Christmas. Thankfully there was.
Lure Caught Bream (the slimy FW kind)
Still enjoying the freshwater side of things. LRF tackle is bang on for targeting Perch, with plenty of small fish and the chance of a lunker up to 4lb.
I thought I’d hooked one of those large Perch, but after a plucky fight this large, 47cm Bream bobbed up. A first for me, so I was as happy as I would have been with an equivalent sized Perch.

Great day today in tough conditions. Had the pleasure of meeting up with Masaaki Fukuoka from Japan.
Perch on Skirted Jig
It was only a quick trial but managed to prove that Perch are interested in skirted jigs. Second cast. Boom! Nice old fish by the looks of it.

Really enjoying the canal right now. Trying a new stretch this year. Lots of small Perch and plenty of Jack Pike are keeping me busy while I hunt for a 40cm+
