With an extended bank holiday weekend and a decent forecast we jumped in the van and headed down the A303 to Devon, for a spot of camping. Dawlish Warren was our chosen destination and although this wasn’t a fishing trip, of course the lure rods came along too.
Perhaps not my finest hour in terms of fish care, but despite his run-in, my first Ugui (Japanese Dace) went back strongly after a rushed photo.

Over the past few years I have done so much research on Japanese fishing styles, visited so many Japanese websites, gawped at countless Japanese fishing products and tried (and mostly failed) to decipher lots of Japanese text, that I have become rather fascinated by Japan and its people. So here I am!
Nice to land a Corkwing on a pure plastic at the weekend – especially a Bug Ant. Definitely a 9/10 for cool.
Masa and I had a great day rockfishing at Kimmeridge in Dorset. It was a beautiful day on the rocks and I finally got a proper ‘rockfish’ for Masa, before he heads back to Japan. Great memories for us both.
I’ll skip over the bit about ‘someone’ losing the immobiliser fob for the van!
As I write this the football season has ended, the sun is shining and Daft Punk have released an album that gives me sunburn just listening to it. All of these things suggest that summer is fast approaching, Bream time!
