New toy alert part 2! I didn’t need a new LRF rod and I certainly wouldn’t normally opt for a long (8′ 6″), heavy (to 10g), tubular tipped rod, but the money was right and in the spirit of my favourite saying of the moment – you don’t know what you don’t know – I went for something well out of my norm.

New toy alert! The new LRF season is nearly upon us, so I’m busy preparing for the return of our saltwater mini species. Obviously I needed a new reel – not – but I fell for the charms of this tiny little spinning reel – a mint Shimano Twin Power 1000 FC.

It was tough going yesterday, but with my favourite stretch of canal still well and truly open I wanted to christen a new LRF rod.
Tiemco PDL Super Fin Tail
This was one of my favourite finds at the Nantes fishing show – the Tiemco PDL Super Fin Tail. This 2.7″ lure has some really nice characteristics including an oversize eye – an excellent strike trigger, as well as a relatively large side profile and an unusual rudder-like tail. Apparently the tail gives an erratic action when jerked but also has the size to move a decent volume of water – something I’m starting to feel is very important in successful lure design. A quality lure selected by the lads at French Touch Fishing. Watch out Perch!

On the Scoreboard
Hopefully it won’t take too much longer for the saltwater sport to pick up on the south coast. I did pop out tonight and got a few bites but nothing too exciting. Managed this tiny Black Goby and an equally tiny Pollock. But at least the 2013 tally has started finally.
Decoy Flash Bomb SV-40
Liked the look of the new Decoy Flash Bomb, an articulated jig with a skirt in a range of colours. I liked the price less – a tenner for two!
