Had to call off a boat trip last week due to the wind strength offshore so I grabbed what LRF gear I had and decided upon a sheltered LRF session in the sun, around Old Portsmouth. Wind back the clock over 8 years to our exploratory LRF sessions and it was like nothing had changed! Okay, some of the marks are different. A couple are now out-of-bounds, or at least extremely hard to fish, but at least one new ‘swim’ exists. More importantly, it’s pleasing to see the mini-species are surviving under what must be more angling pressure today. It’s cool to target ‘tiddlers’ now! Certainly, I caught more Tompot Blenny than I remember. Or maybe I’ve learned a thing or two in 8 years? Who knows! A great day in the sun with familiar surroundings.
