With the bass and zander ticked off already, Masa and I had the whole of Saturday afternoon free. We had the choice of pretty much anywhere to fish south of The Midlands, on our way back home. Masa had the first idea. To fish Oxford.
Zander Revenge
This tale of Zander fishing starts back in early 2014 when I was lucky enough to spend some time fishing with Masaaki Fukuoka. Masa was over in the UK studying and improving his English. We fished a few times over winter and although we had fun and caught many fish, there was an unfinished bit of business. Masa had read all about the Zander fishing available in Europe and wanted to try for his first.
Our Alderney Lure Festival 2016
The 3rd and 4th of September saw both local and visiting lure anglers congregate upon the beautiful island of Alderney for the annual Alderney Lure Festival. Hosted by Alderney Angling and its 4th year, it was great to hear the event was going from strength to strength, with a record turnout.
My First Welsh Bass
A trip to visit relatives in Carmarthenshire this weekend gifted me the opportunity to fish a picturesque estuary on the flooding tide. The end result was a nice Bass on the 15g Caro rod. My first Welsh bass! Fought really well in the shallows and has left me wanting to do more of this style of angling.
Swanage Tompot Bonanza
Dropped in on Swanage Pier for a few hours this bank holiday and bumped into fellow light lure enthusiast, Ricki Hill. It was really firing in places and it was painful when I had to tear myself away, all too soon. Pleased to hear that Ricki found the rare Baillons after I left. I did add Black Bream and Pouting to my yearly tally. The number of Tompot Blenny was staggering.
