The king of the rock pool. Many an angler has become hooked on LRF after catching his or her first Scorpion Fish. The most common Long-spined Sea Scorpion and the fancier Short-spined Sea Scorpion, both look extremely cool. A gigantic head harbours an equally gigantic mouth and is adorned with lots of lumps, bumps and spikes. Living in and around weed and rocks the colour variation can be from brown to green, to red. The large mouth hints at the ferocity of this little predator and even small fish will take fairly large lures, including fish replicas, worms and crustaceans. Here in the UK, Sea Scorpions are not poisonous and can be handled safely with confidence.
