Once you’ve found them Lesser Weever are pretty easy to catch. Aggressive little things. They very much like movement and will come way off the bottom to hit a moving lure. Here, a natural coloured Knight Worm. Please be careful. They’re highly venomous.
After entering the Species Hunt competition for the first time last year, I’d managed to pass on my enthusiasm for the event to mates, Dan and Chris. I’ve somehow beautifully avoided Weevers until now. But very pleased to tick off the Lesser Weever on this year’s species list. Numero 20 in fact. Lure was an XL Marukyu Isome fished on a 10g jighead on the drift.
Watch out youngsters (and not so youngsters) – these are poisonous! Not worthy of abuse, but watch yourselves and go careful.
