I was lucky enough to find a couple of these juvenile grouper lurking at the bottom of a quay in Skopelos, Greece. I believe them to be Goldblotch Grouper (Epinephelus costae), which I think is a first for me. You can't help but love grouper. A proper rockfish! They both aggressively took small paddletails fished on 1g jigheads.
Probably the best sport I had in Skopelos was that offered by a tenacious little pack of juvenile Amberjack. Not particularly hard to hook-up once you found them - the faster the better! Super aggressive and great fun once hooked. More
We endeavoured to find a new wrasse mark this weekend but the results were slightly disappointing. Having said that, we did find some stunning scenery and worked out access routes, etc. In fact, I think we stumbled upon some great looking bass ground. More
While I won't remember the 2016 Cornish Lure Festival as one of my finest angling achievements, the event once again demonstrated why it is a must-do competition on the lure fishing calendar. More

Really feels like LRF is firing now. The water feels alive. Loads of mini sandeel and fry about. With it a huge amount of aggressive species. Good array of fish hitting non-flavoured lures. Nice to see the shoal bass have returned. Could this be why I didn't catch a single goby all weekend? Or maybe just out-competed by the wrasse.
